Take a walk
Find a friend or two and catch up while enjoying a stroll outside. Take it to the next level by adding a circuit. For example, do 10 reps of a bodyweight exercise at the end of every block. This might include squats, push-ups or lunges.
Go for a swim
The Chicago Park District manages 49 outdoor pools in the city and there are many more pools and water parks throughout the suburbs. Find one near you to swim laps, aqua jog or take a water aerobics class.
Try pickleball
Pickleball is quickly becoming a favorite for people of all ages. It’s similar to tennis, uses paddles and can be played in a singles or doubles format. Check your local park district to find the location of the nearest court.
Play beach volleyball
Being located on Lake Michigan means there are plenty of spots to play a game of beach volleyball. Gather your friends and get ready for an afternoon of fun in the sand.
Explore local trails
Go off-road and run, hike or bike on a local trail. Part of the fun is exploring something that’s new. Just make sure you let someone know your location before heading out. It’s also a good idea to bring a phone in case you encounter any trouble.
Go kayaking
The Chicago area has many options for kayaking, canoeing and even paddle boarding. You’ll get a great upper body and core workout while also enjoying time on the water.
Play a round of disc golf
To an outsider it may seem like nothing more than tossing a frisbee. But disc golf is a fantastic cardiovascular and body weight workout. The Chicagoland Disc Golf Club is a great resource if you’re new to the sport.
Practice yoga in the park
Now’s the time to take your yoga practice out of the studio and into the great outdoors. Some studios offer outdoor yoga classes, but you can also practice poses on your own in a park or your own backyard.
